Connection Wizard is Bewitched

I cannot get my Connection wizard to help me make a simple
connection to the Internet on my XP system. I follow the
stages of the Wizard, opting to use a ISP tel no. that I
have, but on the following screen the option to create an
internet connection is Greyed-out and I am only offered
the opportunity to connect to Broadband. An advisor I
know has suggested that this is because I'm using an
illegal copy of XP, but, although I bought the
installation CD with a second-hand computer, it certainly
appears to be the genuine article, and I have no reason to
doubt it's authenticity. Can anyone help?
 
sounds like your modem is not installeed properly. go to
your device manager and insure it has the proper drivers
installed.
