I have software that transfers data between two computers. It was working
fine on XP service pack 1 and now with sp2 it does not let the computers stay
connected. It is as if as soon as it sees the connection is a computer it
disconnects. What settings do I need to change that will allow these
computers to work?

Check your firewall settings first. Service Pack 2 automatically enables
the Windows Firewall. If you are not running a third-party firewall, go
to the Windows Firewall applet in Control Panel and enable File &
Printer Sharing on the Exceptions tab. If you are using a third-party
firewall (and have properly configured it to allow your lan traffic as
Trusted), then turn the Windows Firewall off. You don't want two
firewalls running, and a third-party program will be better than the
WF. All firewalls must be properly configured to allow lan traffic as
Trusted.

Malke,

I am not sure I have all the lan set to Trusted. How do I make sure and
does this also apply to connections via the modem?

Here are links to help you configure the Windows Firewall:

If you have a third-party firewall, you would need to look in its Help
file.
