I tried to see if there was any progress and I seem to have been able to
connect to the server anyway.

Hi

Yes update works.

24 hour downtime for a safety application............ !?

Well, it´s a beta. ;)

Made in MS, wait 48 hours.

I really hope they do the same with One Care, it can play
with Njorton in bloatware division.

Plun - I don't believe the servers were down, regardless of what is written
in these groups (I understand that one "A.J." at some level of Microsoft
support did say that, but I'm still saying this.)

There was a routing issue. I don't know whether within or outside of
Microsoft's control, but I suspect outside, unless I hear otherwise.

I had no trouble at any time over the weekend reaching the update servers
from home, or from one office I work with. I did have a different office
which showed the symptoms, but by the time I got around to trying to
investigate more deeply, the problem was fixed.

Hi Bill

Nope, I believe it was a DNS history/mismatch against Spynet.

Nevertheless it is unacceptable with this type of "breakdowns" for
safety applications. Also if it is a Beta.

And with no official information about the fault !?

MS must have 24/7 information people for this, or if they
let Akamai inform about faults.

But this is MS and they always do what they want ? Nice blogs, chats
and Live sites but nothing for real world trouble.

So I hope they will burn all ships also with One Care ;)

I hear you. Microsoft is big. There are folks who work for the Microsoft
Antispyware team, and they make sure their servers (which they probably don't
personally admin, and are probably not physically near) are working.

There are, presumably network admins as well who look for issues beyond the
server farms, but I don't know how/where/who or anything about that function.

Clearly that job didn't get done right this time around. In fact, if the
message I read tonight is correct, Australia may still be blacked out of
connecting for definitions
