My son phoned me to ask how he finds out what his on line connection speed
is and I told him as follows;
Programmes/Accessories/communications/network connections Internet/
connection and you will see the connection speed
But he tells me that the only item shown is the local area connection speed
and there is no mention of the internet connection
Why is this missing? and how do I add it?
In my case both local and internet connections are shown

Not sure how you see an Internet connection speed, since that's not
available directly to your computer. You have to use an online speed
test site to find out your current Internet connection speed, such as
the following:

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
http://toast.net/performance/
http://www.speedtest.net/
http://internet.bell.ca/index.cfm?l...ISP_SS_20090504_JG_VURL_service_speedcheck_EN

Internet speeds vary quite a bit.

One way to measure your bandwidth is to go to a site such as:
<http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest>
which will measure your actual bandwidth for you.
