hi everyone-
i have been having some trouble connecting to ANYTHING on the net. it
is only happening at my computer start-up or when i restart. my home
page in sea monkey will not load.... i get an, "address not found,"
error. i will get this, in fact, no matter what website i try. i have
tried sea monkey's mail program and the newsgroup program as well and
they all say they cannot access their servers. And! i tried other
browsers: i tried IE and firefox and they all will have the same kind
of trouble. this business does not usually last long....usually a few
minutes, and then i can get a connection. It does NOT always happen,
but it does happen MOST of the time. and, the amount of time it takes
to establish a connection to the net, varies. but it is always a pretty
short amount of time......3-10 min. maybe.

has anyone else had this kind of trouble? thanks a bunch. btw, i use
windows xp home.

You didn't tell us how you connect to the Internet - method and ISP. It
sounds like you have a proxy server set, possibly by a security program or
your DHCP/DNS servers aren't set up correctly. Without knowing anything
about your network connection, it's impossible to tell.

And what type of connection do you use, ie wireless or what?
It sound as though your PC either hasnt finished loading or hasnt obtained a
connection immediately.

Could easily be a modem that's slow to initialize and connect.

hmm....i have a dsl connection (from verizon), but i haven't had this
trouble until recently. and i've been using the service for about 4
months now.

What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't? Do any
driver updates to the network adapter? If yes, roll them back. Add any
security software? Have you checked with your ISP yet?

If your hardware is good and the computer is virus/malware-free, perhaps
there is a problem with your DSL modem or with your ISP's DNS servers.

ya, sorry. i use a dsl connection from verizon (its the slowest service
they offer). but i was not having this kind of delay connecting until
recently. i've used the service for 4 months now. what might cause
this to happen now and not before? thanks.

hi-
i have resolved my problem. the modem needed to be reprogrammed. seems
it lost its memory, maybe from a thunderstorm we had recently.
