The computer lab at my wife's school was recently upgraded
to windows xp with all the upgrades/service packs and now
she keeps hitting the connection limit of 10 with xp pro.
She needs to have her students access her computer and
needs more than 10 connections. Is there anyway around
this problem?
I have read that the limit is stored in the TCPIP.sys file
but it is unreadable with standard text packages. I don't
believe Microsoft has offered a fix because they want it
this way for security reasons. If anyone knows a way to
get around this I would greatly appreciate the info.
I have already tried a patch that is on the internet but
it did not do the trick even though it said it increased
the limit to 50.

She needs to move to either a Windows 2003 Server operating system
(unlimited connections) or a Small Business Server operating system.

As it has always been, the limit of 10 concurrent inbound
connections is the same for all of Microsoft's workstation operating
systems, except WinXP Home, which is limited to 5.

If you need more than 10 concurrent connections, you'll need to
install a server OS.
