Connection causing slow startup

I recently reinstalled my os. Everything worked fine.
The last thing I instealled was my dsl connection and
suddenly my startup slowed to almost two minutes. I'm
using the exact same configurations and start up programs
that I used previously without having this problem. I
checked the running services and system configuration and
weeded anything unnecessary out of automatic start mode.
Still no change in startup. However, if I disable the
LAN connection that the dsl line uses, the startup
returns to normal. I've taken everything out of startup,
disabled and disconnected all network and internet
connections, and methodically put them back seeing which
was the problem and if any two conflicted. The result is
always the same - when that connection is enabled even if
nothing else is, the start up is slow. If everything else
is loaded, enabled, and connected except that dsl network
connection the startup is normal. This wasn't the case a
couple of weeks ago and both my ISP and system
manufacturer have been completely useless. Any ideas
anyone?
