I have a windows 2000 machine hooked up to my 5 port
switch, which is connected to both sonicwall (hardware
firewall)and the uplink line of my 8 port switch, which is
connected to my xp network (4 xp machines). The firewall
is connected to my dsl modem. My xp machines can see each
other(workgroup), they can also surf the web. they cannot
see my windows 2000 workstation. The windows 2000 machine
can get the web but cannot see the workgroup. How do I
connect my windows 2000 to the xp workgroup, or do I make
the xp machines join a windows 2000 domain. oh yea, and
some generalized instructions would be nice.

For a domain, you'd need a server/domain controller. If the W2k computer
doesn't currently belong to a domain (such as a work laptop), you can set
its workgroup name to the one you wish - make sure you know the local admin
credentials, always, just in case.
