Connecting two XP machines together without crossover cable

Hello all

I hope that I am posting this to the right news group(if not please let me know). Here is what I wish to accomplish. I want to connect two XP Professional computers together using a usb cable so I can transfer files. Question 1: Is this at all possible (I don't wish to use a crossover cable)
