I am not entirely sure whether you have ever scanned your computer for
viruses. I would suggest you go to one of the online scanners and do that
first. Were you using an antivirus before March?

Use one of the following.......
McAfee's online scanner (http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp)
or Trend Micro's Housecall (http://housecall.antivirus.com).

It might not be a bad idea to download AdAware 6 to check for spyware as
well.....(http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) It is a free
program.

Let us know how you make out......

Like the old joke:

"Doctor! Becasue of the accident... Will I ever be able to play the
violin?"

"Why, Yes!"

"That's funny. I couldn't paly it before the accident!"

My first queastion would be, were you ever able to connect for an
update before? If no, then do you have a firewall installed? If yes,
then you may need to give Norton permission to pass the firewall.

If you have had no firewall, and you have had no antivirus, then the
odds of your computer being infected are quite good. As Heather
states, use one of the online virus scans, and get ZoneAlarm (free
firewall).

You might also get SpyBot and run it with AdAware. What one does not find,
the other often does:

You should update both Adaware and SpyBot after installing them before you
run them to make sure the detection files are up to date. Keep them up dated
regularly.

or

In addition to what Heather and Randy G suggested, you might also download
and install SpywareBlaster. It will help keep crud from getting on your
machine to start with. It's free. But, be aware, It is NOT an antivirus
program.

SpywareBlaster:

SpywareBlaster does not need to be run, but, it does need to be updated
regularly as well.

You can also get Zone Alarm here, it is free too:
