I have a few PC's, bound to the domain, and when they try
to connect to network shares they get an error: there are
no logon servers available to service your request. MAPI
email through outlook does work though. Also, if i log on
to the PC as a local (non-domain) user, i can connect to
the shares using the domain\username method when it
prompts me to. Looking at the firewall logs, there is
nothing getting blocked between the remote machine and the
file server or any of the DC's.

I've seen this problem when using the AT&T Global Network Dialer & VPN and
also the Nortel Connectivity Client. The issue occurs when you do not
establish your VPN connection first then logon to the network using your
username/password/domain combination. Check to see if your VPN client
software maker has a GINA you can install to allow you to connect before
logging onto the workstation. Hope this helps...
