I run a small mail order catalog. Our database files were
stored on a Windows 98 computer and accessed through many
other computers on our LAN. I just upgraded from Windows
98 to Windows 2000 Pro and I can't figure out how to get
our other computers to find it. It is not the same as it
was, and I can't figure it out from the help files. It
seems to be telling me I must set up a domaine, but it
does not tell me how.

Any help would be appriciated.

well, moving from win98 to 2000 pro you now have to worry about passwords
and such. if your lan is safe from the internet you can consider enabling
the 'guest' account on the 2000 pro machine. that should allow the other
machines on the lan to see shared folders on it without having to login. it
is safer and much more secure if you do go to a server and set up a domain
with user accounts to login to and all that stuff.

Thank you so much! So I can't fint (in the pamphlet that
came with the software) how to enable the "Guest" account
though.

in the control panel open administrative tools, double click on computer
management, select local users and groups, then users. on the right side
you should see the guest account with a red x thing on it. right click on
guest, select properties, uncheck the 'account is disabled', apply it and
close up everything and you should be set.

Thank you again, all is swell now :-). I can see I'll
need to buy the book though, the help files are not
complete.
