Have new dell computer with vista. Cannot connect to my cable modem. Lights
are fine and connection fine with old computer with XP. Dell says i need a
usb adapter for my new computer to my cable modem and they can walk me
through connecting. Does this sound like a Vista problem as they say ?

I am using vista with Ethernet connect right now. You really don't want a
USB cable connect if you can avoid it.
You should have no problems connecting with the Ethernet card supplied with
the machine.

Do you have a modem or a Router to connect your 2 computers?
You say modem, but a lot of people don't know the difference.

If you have a router you normaly have 4 Ethernet connections, and can use a
Cat5 cable for both comps.
With a modem, you only get you only get 1 cable, and 1 USB connection

Call the cable company. I have a feeling they only recognize the MAC address
of your old computer. Tell them you have a new computer and they will reset
the MAC address.
