I am trying to get a Vista computer to recognize the other computers on the
home network. Two computers run Windows XP and are working fine with sharing
and recognition. They see the Vista computer but are not able to look into
it. The Vista computer does not see either XP computer. I have checked the
firewall settings and they appear to be correct. Device recognition is on.

Did you run the network setup tool on Vista to ensure that it's properly
configured? Running it also configures a number of local networking and
security options that Vista may need to have configured for networking to
work properly.

My situation is the same.
The only options for the network setup on the Vista refer to wireless but I
have a wired setup

On the XP boxes:
Open a CMD window and type: ipconfig <Enter>
Write down the IP address provided: example 192.168.1.101

On the Vista box:
Press Start button
In the Search box, type: \\192.168.1.101 <Enter>
(Use the addresses you wrote down. You'll have to do this for each
machine's address.)

Two things may happen:
1. You'll be connected to the specific machine's shared folders, or
2. You'll be blocked by your firewall or the machine's firewall. When that
happens, select Allow.

Actually looking in the folders is more complex since it depends on the
setup of each machine:
