I am unable to connect my laptop through wireless, which has worked fine up
until two days ago. It keeps trying to use dial up, or give me the option to
use dial up. I have attempted to check / confirm settings, including
re-entering the network key, all XP to repair the connection, etc.
Any suggestions?

You have two problems here.

First, your wireless connection is not working. At my place, this situation
is usually caused by inadequate signal strength. It seems everytime that
there is anything going on with the weather, wireless can't stay connected.
It may be that your laptop is too far from the router for a constant
connection. Mine sometimes can't stay connected when it is only 10 feet
from the router.

Your other problem is cause by the setting which instructs XP to dial out
whenever it needs a connection. You said that you looked at all of the
settings, but you missed that one.

All of the other things you did were a waste of time. In fact reentering
the encryption key is a bad idea because it is so very very easy to enter it
incorrectly.

First, locate the switch that controls radio on/off and ensure that it is in
the on position..

After trying your solutions, and others, without success, I took it in to
local computer store. The tech, after hearing the problem, immediately said
" Have you pushed F11 key? That turns wireless on and off!!!!" We did, and
it immediately fixed the problem. How frustrating, as this was not indicated
in anything- manual, help screens, etc. Seems they try to make it as
difficult as possible.
