Okay, I connected to my desktop computer from my laptop computer at home.
Now, since I did set it up through my netowork, when I am at work or away and
have internet connection available, can I just click on "Remote Connection",
type the name and password, and connect still? Or is there another step I
have to do to use this while I am not at home on my home network? Also, can
I transfer any type of data files? When I logged on through my home network
I couldn't transfer anything from my documents.

Thanks for you help,

Dan

Yes you can do all of that using Remote Desktop over the public internet.
See this page for help...

The bottom line is you need to open/forward TCP Port 3389 through any
firewall or router your home PC is behind. Call using the public IP of the
firewall or router.

To transfer files with Remote Desktop see this article...You can simply
copy/cut-n-paste files between local and remote folders...
