Can anyone help me see my home destop fro a remote location Have followed xps help to set it up but still does not work

Tell us more about both locations involved:

At home, you have an XP Pro machine, with Remote Desktop enabled, and a user
account with a password, correct?

How does the home location connect to the Internet--what devices are
involved?

At the remote site, you have a Windows or Mac OS/X machine with Remote
Desktop Connection installed. This location connects to the internet how?

You need to know the public IP address of the home network. One way to find
this is to go to www.myip.com from the home machine.

If there is a nat/router device or firewall involved at home--and there
SHOULD BE! you need to open port 3389, TCP in that firewall or device and
forward inbound traffic on that port to the XP Pro machine.

At the remote site, it is essential that port 3389, TCP traffic be allowed
out--this may not be the case in a network with a firewall connecting to the
Internet.

Hi gto1569

Presuming you have ICF ticked in advanced settings, you need to tick remote
desktop in ' settings ' of the advanced tab of your internet connection.

If you have another firewall then you need to open port 3389.

This will then allow you to use remote desktop connection in XP.

If you are not using XP remotely then you can download the rdp client from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/rdclientdl.asp

This assumes you know the IP address of your home pc.

If someone is sitting at the pc then this will log them off.

Alternatively if someone is sitting at the pc then you can use remote
assistance. In help of XP type remote assistance.

Hope this helps

Yura: I'm sure you are justifiably proud of your product, and eager to gain
new users.

However, simply suggesting that any user having trouble with Remote Desktop
use your product instead is not good advice, and really is not appropriate
in this group.

I (for one) welcome your product announcement.

I don't welcome these posts suggesting that users try your product, rather
than figure out what their technical issue with Remote Desktop might be.

Am using xp home I have a router to cable connection the other location is dsl Will try opening up port 3389 I think I know my ip but its dynamic should I change to static? thanks for your responses will let you know what happens

OK--let's see if I have this right.

You are connecting from an XP Home machine, via a router and a cable
connection to an XP Pro machine connected (by a router?) to DSL.

The router at the XP Pro location will need to have opened port 3389, TCP to
the XP Pro machine, and you will need to know the public IP address of the
DSL connection at the time you want to connect (www.myip.com)

Dynamic IP doesn't prevent connecting, just makes it trickier. Use a DynDNS
service if this will be a regular thing.
