My Windows XP Pro is connected with a static IP DSL through a router. If I
leave it on, how can I connect to that machine from home also running XP
Pro? What address do I use for the VPN setting?

Hello

Use the static IP that is asigned to that pc that is the purpose
of using static IP

Thanks Alvin, I always thought the given IP is assigned for the router. What
settings do I need to make on the host machine? Once I connect to the
router, am I automatically in the office LAN? Is that how it works? All I
need is to have identical Workgroup right?

Hello

Yes, you should be able to connect to that pc from pretty much
anywhere as long as you know that IP address of that pc, that is
why Static is much better than Dynamic. With dynamic if you pc reboots
due to power issue you will have a different IP address
