Hello.
I´ve just bought a notebook Hewlett Packard ZE5537, and i´ve a cable
connection to the internet.
I expected to connect my new machine by simply pluging -in the cable
thant comes out of the modem. As i do with the other pc. (i want to
connect my notebook alone, not both of them at the same time)
The problem is that is does not go into internet. When i go to the
control panel everything seems to be right. It is configured to
obtain an IP adreess automaticly.
What is extrage is thet it gets an Ip address starting with 169....
when it should start with 200... and below it mentions something about
a private network. and nothing about DHCP.
I do not know what to do. How do i configure my new pc so It can go to
the internet?
I've tried that of configuring a home networking... and desabling the
security server (is it good to do that?)
I thank you any advice.

Juan Camilo..

MS OS assigns a 169.x.x.x ip address when DHCP cannot pick up an ip
address - so your laptop is not picking up an ip from your ISP's DHCP
server.

Try rebooting your cable modem and then try renewing again (ipconfig
/renew).
