XP recognizes the Adaptec card, but will not allow me to
transfer movies from the camcorder to the HDD. Editing
programs say "no device recognized." I hear there may be
a "hotfix" for this problem.

Thanks for any help,
Floyd

If there is I sure would like to know about it. I've been trying to get my
Sony DCR-TRV350 connecting again. It worked on a previous installation of
XP, but refuses to work on this one. The Firewire card is recognized just
fine, but no joy when I connect the cam. I tried a new cable and installed
a new Firewire card and old and new cable and still no success. I installed
the Firewire card to my wife's computer and it won't work there either. I'd
think it was the cam if it hadn't worked before. C'mon Microsoft, fix
this!!

Hello
Try This..
Powerdown the computer, attach the firewire cable to computer and camera. Power on the camera and put in play mode
Now boot up your computer
It seems that this is a problem with many camera/firewire hooks ups
When finished power down the computer, turn-off the camera and disconnect the firewire cable
Post back with the results... :

Nope, still no joy. :-( Tried several times and it sitll refuses to
recognize the cam.

Thanks for giving it a shot. It was something I hadn't tried yet.
