I have recently got a new computer with a HDD and a DVD-WR
They are both connected in a chain to the IDE 1 connector
master & Slave. If I install an additional DC Rom and HDD
would it be best to have both HDD on the same IDE 1
Master/slave and use the IDE 2 for the DVD and CD Rom
master/slave.
I have a Gigabyte Pentium 4 Titan Series GA-8IPE1000
motherboard.
If this is a "silly question" I'm sorry but things a only
simple when you know the answer and I don't want to mess
up my new unit.
Thanks for any assistance.
Matthew

Thats the right way,set the jumpers on the hds correctly,
usually slave is first, master feeds thru slave to board.

Hi;
HDDs are GENERALLY installed as 1st devices (primary) on IDE connectors as
1- They are the fastest for both writing and reading and won't impede
anything slaved to them. CD-Rom drives have way slower access times (10-20x)
and Read/Write per second.
2- Drives are detected on primariES 1st: they'll be "C:" on the 1st IDE and
"D:" on the 2nd IDE: will logically follow each other.
Secondary on 1st will be "E:", on 2nd:"F:"==> logical also as both CDs
follow each other.

The only time I will set 2 HDDs on the same cable is when the user intends
to "clone" (whenever that will be done?) data to a drive as some utilities
require it to function (as 1 HDD after the other on 1 cable).
