I have an INSPIRON laptop with VISTA. I am trying to install an HP 460
printer.
My granddaughter will use this in high school as she has learning problems.
The
computer is ours, but the school provided the printer. I have installed the
printer
with some difficulty. When I try to print a word document, I get an error.

I successfully installed the same printer to my Dell PRECISION 6300 and was
able
to print.

I suspect that VISTA may be the problem, but am not sure. Any sage advice for
a stumped grammy???????

When I try to print a word document, I get an error.

To help you we need to know exactly what that error message said -- not
a paraphrase but exactly.

Have a look at this HP webpage:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc
=en&product=466208&lang=en

This tells you that the driver is already part of VISTA and tells you
how to setup the printer so try again but first go into Control Panel /
Printers and delete any icon that appears there for the HP 460 printer.

Go into Control Panel / Remove Programs and look to see if there are
any HP programs listed there to do with the printer; if so uninstall
them.

Then follow the instructions in the document listed on that HP page.

Now that they have released it, download the HP Toolbox and install
that to give you fuller printing facilities.

If that does not work, you might try using the XP software package and
compatibility mode but leave that for later.
