There's several ways to approach this. One way to go about it:

In between the desktop and the DSL modem, install a wireless router. The
desktop and DSL modem will stay wired to this device. The router now
provides the link to the internet and, if you desire, a network connection
to the desktop.

The laptop needs a wireless adapter to pick up the signal from the router.
Many laptops come with these already built-in but its available as a
separate card too.

Thanks for your help Sharon...

Do I have to get people in to do this or is something that can be done
easily by myself?

If you're good at reading and understanding directions, it's something you
could do yourself. But it is something that you can farm out if you don't
have the time or the know-how.

Some ISPs offer this installation service - around here the going price is
~$100. Some PC shops offer the service as well and may be more
competitively priced.

Hi again Sharon,
Have you ant idea of the cost of these to buy?...and can you buy them at PC

Mark, this is an item that it pays to shop around. You can get a decent
router for under $50. Some come in a kit that include the wireless adapter.
Yes, you can get these things at most any store that sells computers and
accessories.

Brilliant many thanks for all your help!
Will be off to pc world to get one sunday!...thank you loads and have a nice
day!
