My new machine, is due to arrive next week.

I would like to connect it and this present machine together; either via
direct wire
or thru my Linksys 4 port switch router (wireless).

Object is to be able to reach various files and programs from old machine
'at will'
vice moving all data to new machine.
Also would I require another monitor? (hope not)

Have 'no' idea how to do this. Heck, or even if it is possible.

Many thanks for your kind advice.

You will need networks card in both machines. You will then need two cables
(CAT5). Plug one end into the network card and one into the router. Make sure
both machines are on the same workgroup though. To set this right click My
Computer and then choose properties. On the Computer Name tab press the
Change button.

Connect both to the router, and then set up a simple home network.. use the
Network Wizard for this..

In order to use one monitor, and presumably one mouse and keyboard, you will
need to get a KVM switch (Keyboard Video Mouse).. some also share Audio, but
they cost more..

Thanks Steve, for your response.
Please see my reply to Mike Hall and anything else you can add is most
welcome.

Both computers can be connected via CAT5 ethernet patch cables or wireless
card to your wireless Linksys router.. that is not a problem.. then run the
Network Wizard which will align both machines to the same workgroup.. you do
not need to buy anything from Dell..

BUT FIRST, you must have control of both machines..take a look here..

http://www.misco.co.uk/productinfor... AUDIO SUPPORT AND BUILT-IN CABLING, PS/2.htm

What you should be seeing is a 2 port Belkin KVM switch that includes mouse,
keyboard, screen and audio.. note the two 'sets' of cables.. one set is
plugged into one machine, and the other becomes obvious.. so now you are
left with the 'big black end'.. into this, you connect your mouse, keyboard,
screen, and speakers/headset..

I don't use this make, but I would imagine that flicking from one unit to
another is simple enough.. on mine, I just press Scroll Lock twice..

SUPER!!!!
My most sincere thanks to you, "Mike Hall".
You just made my day. :^)
