I am new to Windows. I have an XP Professional machine at home and another at a customer site. I configured my customer's PC to receive incoming calls and defined my user and password.
When I connect using dial-up, after the connection is established, password verify, etc. I can see the two little computers in the task bar but cannot navigate through this connection using windows explorer.
I was also expecting to have control over the remote console.

Please tell me what am I doing wrong here or if it is possible what I want to do.

Regards,

Jorge

After connecting, right-click the icon with the two little computers, and
choose status, details.

Note the Server IP address. Is it different from the Client IP address?

If it is, use the Server IP address in the address for Remote Desktop
connection.

Run RDC and put in the Server IP address. Does this work?

In addition, try:

Start, run, \\serverIPaddress <enter>

If the two addresses are the same, check the server machine. In properties
of TCP/IP on the Incoming Connection, set a set of fixed IP addresses,
rather than DHCP. Probably a range of 4 addresses or so is appropriate (one
for dialin, vpn, firewire, and IR) Best to set addresses which are either
in the same subnet as the lan to which the host is attached (if any!), and,
ideally, different from the subnet to which your client machine is attached
(if any.)

If you get a pair of 169.x.y.z addresses, that's fine and expected and
should work, but if you set fixed addresses, they will likely be the same on
each connection, and be easier to work with.
