I live in a house that has a wireless network, Linksys router, Lucent
Wireless Access Point and a Comcast Cable Modem. We have a bunch of
Wavelan Orinoco cards that were here when I got here that work
properly. Recently we needed to get more cards so more people could
connect. The new cards get a good connection. The signal strength is
good. The driver that gets loaded for both cards is identical.
However, when I try to bring up pages in Internet Explorer, I get a
page not found error. Do I need to register the new cards with
the router? How do I do this?
Thanks.

I would check the dns settings first. can you ping a public ip? or post ipconfig /all here.

First let me say that I am fairly certain that this is not a hardware
problem with the cards because we have bought five cards of three
different brands and they all display the same behavior.

This is the ipconfig /all when I plug in the card that is not
producing internet pages:

When I ping outside addresses with the card that is not working both
physical addresses and urls do not work.

Also I can ping the router but not the DNS server.

so, you need to make sure you have good connection and make sure you can
ping a public ip or dns. also make sure the router get ip from isp.

I do get the network icon on the system tray and it indicates that
they signal strength is very good to excellent.

You might check that your wireless access point does not have MAC filtering
enabled.

Ben

Ben, I think that this is exactly my problem. How do you check this?
My wireless access point device is a WP-II E from Lucent.
Unfortunately, I have never had access to the manual for it and I have
not found the manual on the we. I have been able to figure how to
configure the router (this is a linksys model) by accessing
192.168.1.1 through a browser. Is there a similar way to configure the
WAP? By the way, I did not see anything for MAC address filtering on
the router side. Thx.

Ben,

You hit the nail right on the head!!! I think that is exactly the
problem. That is that the AP is filtering out connections by the MAC
address of the card. I have searched all over the internet to get the
software to configure the AP. I have a Lucent Model WP-II-E. I think
this model is not being made any more so maybe that is why I am having
a hard time getting the software. I don't have the original CD's
because the person that originally set up the network to all the
software with him. Any help with locating the configuration software
would be greatly appreciated.
