connected icons disappear

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me.
I am running XP Home and keep losing my network
connection icons from the bottom right hand corner of the
screen. I have a LAN and dial up connection and the icons
are not shown even when the connections are active.

If I go into the properties of each connection and
disable the icon on the taskbar, then reboot and the re-
enable it, it then returns. But when I then reboot it
disappears again.
Any ideas?

As of late, some are saying if the Volume Icon is checked the Network
Connections are present. Other than that:

Sorry can you please qualify what you mean when you say
the Vol Icon is checked?

Hi Henry,

That information was listed in the links I provided.

Go to Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. On the Volume Tab under
Device Volume, put a check in the box that reads: Place volume icon in the
taskbar.
