Hmm... what type of workgroup do you use on the xp and
2000 machine? Both the 2000, and XP machine most use same
network name.. for example.. "mshome" try again and change
both the XP and 2000 machine to "mshome"

Good luck, if you can't get it work please e-mail me in

Here's all you need to do:

1. Run the Network Setup Wizard on XP Professional to make all of the
network settings on that computer:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/networksetupwiz.htm

2. The Wizard won't run on 2000 Professional, so make those network
settings manually:

a. Configure TCP/IP to obtain an IP address automatically (that's
the default setting).

b. Set the workgroup name to MSHOME to match XP. This isn't
strictly necessary, but it makes networking a little easier.

3. Connect the two computers to each other in one of these ways:

a. Directly, using a crossover Ethernet cable. A regular Ethernet
cable won't work.

b. To a hub, switch, or broadband router using two regular
Ethernet cables.

4. Create a user account on 2000 Professional with the same user name
and password that you use to log onto XP Professional.

5. Right click and share the desired disks and folders.

6. Access the other computer through My Network Places.
