Has anyone experienced a delay that occurs when you click right click on the
network icon in the systray and click connect to network? I have a Dell D620
Notebook with a Core 2 Duo 2.33 Proc 2 GB Memory. I have about 18 VPN
Connections which I believe to have something do do with this delay. After
Running process monitor numerous times I have noticed that the operation
causes about 120000 registry operations while waiting the 60 seconds for the
window to open. While analyzing the registry trace I can see that it is
accessing a specific set of registry keys thay have to do with calling cards
(telephony related keys). I guess it does this for every VPN connection
which is a complete drag. It sure is a pain when you go to connect to a
wireless network and you have to wait 60 seconds for the window to open. I
have noticed on Vista RTM machines without any VPN connections the connect
to network dialog opens immediately.
Thanks STF
