Hi. I am trying to connect to my friends computer at a different
location. We are actually in different state's. we aren't in the same
workgroup or domain or anything. How can i connect to his computer so
i can take over it and fix the problem. I thought maybe using IP
address but that connects me to a router. or something. i don't know.
All i need to know is how can i connect to his computer.

The thing is that:
can i connect to his computer even though he is out of state, not even
in my network/domain/or anything?

Yes... You use the public IP of his PC. That is the IP assigned to him by
his ISP. See this page for help...

If he his behind a router or firewall you need to open TCP Port 3389 on the
router or firewall.
