Can I connect an external hard drive to a networked printer via an open usb
connection. The printer is attached to a router via ethernet. Can I plug
an external hard drive into the printer's USB port and see it on the
network?
Thanks

The printer has to be able to support this. The only one I've ever
heard of doing something like this is the R340, which you can plug USB
hard drives or cd burners to, and supposedly be able to save files
that way. I've never tried it, and I don't know if it would show up on
a network.

Won't hurt to try it... worst case is the printer doesn't support any
interface to it and it never appears on the network... best case, it
works. either way it won't hurt anything.

Might cost me more money to try it, if the usb drive doesn't work. An
external drive with only USB is half the price of an external hard drive
with an ethernet port, that's why I was asking before I bought.
Thanks
