I have a old Excel form that I have been copying when I
need to use it. I am now trying to set up a new one. On
the old one, the columns are not numbered, they have the
headings I put there. When I try to enter headings on a
new form, the heading always go to row one and the columms
remain numbered.

What I am doing is a simple form but I cannot get the
column E (invoice) to add to column F (total)and give me a
total. I tried typing a formula but the formula just
appears in the row 1 cell and then does nothing.

I guess it has to be explained in very simple terms so I
will understand. I visited web pages but the information
there is way beyond what I need.

Thanks,

TK

Hi TK
Firstly, you cannot rename columns and rows.
To do what you require put your column headings in row 1
and then go to tools/options and desect row & column
Headers.
Secondly, Assuming you are in row 1, If you want your
fomula to add Column E to Column F, try putting this in
column G

=E1+F1

You cannot change the Row and Column Header numbers and letters, but you can
hide them at Tools>Options>View and uncheck "row and column headers.

To freeze your new titles which you enter in row one, select A2 and
Window>Freeze Panes. To also freeze column A select B2 first then Freeze
Panes.

Assume you see formula and not result of formula.
Could be you have Tools>Options>View "Formulas" checked?

If not, could be the cell(s) are formatted as Text. Select and re-format to
General then re-enter the formula or hit F2 then <ENTER> key

Formulas is not checked. I cannot figure out where to
type the formula. If I type it in the column header titled
TOTAL, then it changes the header to Total + Amt. Rec. and
it still does not perform the operation. Is there a step
by step tutorial somewhere, this is really frustrating.
