I have a dial up modem installed that I use to get the
internet on my XP. In 'Network Connections' it has >>
Type - Dial up // Status -
Disconnected,Shared,Firewalled but it's connected
right now. It's the only modem that's installed in this
machine. When I right-click it and hit properties,
nothing happens, the menu just dissapears and that's it.
As if I didn't choose anything at all. Also, when I right-
click it, 'Connect' is in bold print, when I choose that
one (even though it's already connected) nothing happens
again.

I am trying to share my internet connection (ICS) but I'm
getting nowhere Fast. I believe I have followed all of
the steps correctly, but I have 'notta' to show for it. I
am running Mcafee firewall on the XP machine, but even
when I drop the firewall, I still don't get any results.
I also have to figure out how to reconfigure my firewall
so that I don't have to drop it in order to communicate
with my other PC's (NIC) within my LAN setup (and at the
same time) stay protected from the internet (modem).

If anybody would be able to help me with this mess, I
would be More Than Abliged. Any And All constructive
input is welcome. THANX N ADVANCE The Rookie/Wayne B.

Wayne,

Firewalls and ICS, unless carefully done, are frequently the cause of
problems with sharing the internet and local files. I generally
recommend total un install of any third party firewalls, if you can't
get everything working. Disabling third party firewalls like MPF is
usually a waste of time.

First try to get ICS working with NO firewalls in place. Once it's
working, re install MPF and learn how to configure it precisely so the
other computers are trusted and can therefore share files.

You can use ICF for protection - but only on the dialup connection.
Make sure ICF is disabled on the LAN connection.

Please start by posting ipconfig for both computers. Start - Run -
"ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad,
copy and paste into your next post.

Here's a good article to explain what you have to do. It's a lot
simpler than it looks - if you do it without confusing yourself with
the wizard.

BTW, posting articles with your email address like that is a bad idea.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Appreciate the reply Chuck. I'll look into what u sent
and give it a try. Thanks Again. Wayne B.
PS->> That's Not My Email Address. I've learned that one
already. THANX
