Hi, I want to thank any and all who are able to offer
some assistance with my recent problem. I run Windows XP
professional and have recently run into a problem where
Internet Explorer 6.0 will not open. I run Verizon DSL
which I have spoken with their tech support and we have
determined that the equipment and software from them is
working without error. I have used IE many times before
with the last being about 3 weeks ago. When I click to
open IE I have the mouse pointer and the hour glass which
comes up, then goesa away roughly 2 seconds later, but no
IE opens. I was thinking of reinstalling IE so I go to
control panel, however IE is not even listed as a program
on my computer. I downloaded IE 6.0 from Microsoft to
maybe correct and errors and when I try to reinstall I am
told: A previous installation has work pending that
requires a reboot. Reboot then run this installation
again. Well, I reboot and it does no good, I still cannot
install IE, I just get the error message I just relayed.
Any Ideas, help or advice that can be offered I am in
desperate need. Thank you all.

Hi,
This is possibly being caused by third party programs- parasites, spyware,
adware, or a toolbar or other add-on to IE.

From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." If that allows IE to open, search for the offending
program(s)
Note: You should re-enable browser extensions after the cleanup.
