Hi guy's/gals
Am running on norton 2005 and after doing many scans that have been risk file's, and they have been deleted as normal in the past, but recently it has kept some in my quarintine files and i can not delete them only putting them down as exceptions seems my only option is this harmfull to my computer if i put them in as exceptions ???? i dont know what to do they are addware files?

Also i have ad-aware profesional version 6.0 running too and sometimes on windows start up 2 times out of 10 the ad watch monitor has a problem starting up i dont understand why but the initial scan is fine and does it's job as normal deleting risk's automaticly. just want to know if anybody else has this problem with the program
thanx people chris.

When Norton moves a file into the quaranteen section, it is being kept from teh rest of files, so it shuld be quite safe.

Even if it's selected as an exception, it should be ok because nothing should be abel to call it from Norton's quaranteen.

As for Adaware, sounds to me like it may be worth uninstalling it and trying again.

Hope this helps?

Don't waste your money : AVG FREE : Zonealarm FREE : Spybot S&D FREE : Adaware SE Personal FREE

thanks for your advice manq it really help's it's just that i was confussed about exception files so in future i should just mark them as exceptions and leave norton to do the rest of the work and i will re install ad-aware thank's once again your a gem

I always prefer to get rid of things from quarantine anyway, just makes me feel better :)

I've done a little more investigation, what are the file names in your quarantine ?

Could Norton have picked up on "JS.Exception.Exploit" ?

I spotted this on the Symantec site and just wondered if this was possibly your problem:

"If your Symantec antivirus program alerts you to JS.Exception.Exploit, this means that it has stopped the exploit and prevented it from running. It does not mean that your computer is "infected" with this threat. Rather, it means that the antivirus program has stopped it. Because the exploit is usually not on your computer, in most cases you will not be able to "delete" it, since there is nothing to delete."

This is the page

Even if your infection is not JS.Exception.Exploit, the same can be said in that because Norton has picked it up, means it has stopped it from running, but may be worth uninstalling adaware 1st, then do a norton scan to see if it disappears. If it does, I would reinstall adaware again and not worry if it pops back up again.

Hope this helps a little more?

hi manq,
the files i have and awaiting to exclude on norton are as follows:-
ccapp.exe adware.system program adware found at risk
navshext.dll adware.system program adware found at risk
WToolsA.exe adware.Websearch adware found at risk
d[1].htm adware.CDT adware found at risk
get[1].htm adware.CDT adware found at risk
get[2].htm adware.CDT adware found at risk

I havent yet excluded them so they keep on reapearing just thought i would write them as they appeared for your understanding thanks once again and as for my ad aware re installing it did fix this minor problem with the program thanx once agai MAN Q

GET RID OF 'EM ALL

They are ALL 'nasties' and Norton is doing it's job ... but cannot, for some reason, delete them? ... I gave up on Norton, switched to KAV. ;)

Download, install, update & run MS Anti-Spyware

Download, install, update & run SpwarBlaster, its in my sig'

Unfortunatley, an Anti-Virus program alone will not protect you ... you need other programes as well ... I do hope you at least have XP's FireWall turned on?

hi there muckshifter,
i assumed i was protected with norton and ad-aware version 6.0 so i wouldnt need to have anymore spyware programs i do have my windows firewall active. Now am totaly confussed do i need a separate firewall program for added protection.

err, no on both counts.

Windows Firewall is fine, DO NOT turn it off. One firewall is fine

An Anti-Virus program, is just what it says, an AV program ... that, if good enough will help against attack from other nasties ... other nasties constitute Trojans, Spyware/Malware, Worms and uncle tom cobbley & all. One AV program is enough.

Now ... these 'nasties' require additional help in eradicating and keeping off our systems ... an AV program is NOT designed for 'nasties', sorry.

Norton is good enough for "viruses" ... MS Anti-Spyware is great for spyware/malware, but, we like to make sure & run something like Ad-Aware AS WELL AS

Now me ... I run KAV, MSAS, Ad-Aware, SpySweeper AND SpywareBlaster ... sad yeah? Oh, and Trojan Hunter once a month.

Ok, end of ear bashing. :thumb:

Thanx muckshifter,
so in all am quite protected with what i have, but not as safe as you are though lol? I wish i had as much knowleage as you do on this matter but you talk about KAV what is this and if i had this program would it be better than what am running on at the moment......
my regards chris

Kaspersky Anti Virus (KAV) ... its just another, well respected, anti-virus program. ;)

Norton will do you fine ... I have been running Norton (Symantec) since 95 when Doctor Norton himself was in charge, great DOS programs and great AV ... but recently Norton had not been "playing fair" on my system and when one spends 3 weeks (with an alternative AV) before one can "get it fixed" made me look for an alternative ... just pride on my part, I had to "fix" Norton, Symantec could not, so I had had enough. ;)

I don't know everything ... but I have been around a loong time ... still learn something new every day. :thumb:
