Confused about bookmarks

I just can't seem to get the following to work.

Suppose I have a document. Suppose there is some text (say a paragraph) that
I want to copy from time-to-time elsewhere in this document.

Ok -- suppose I highlight the paragraph, click on insert/bookmark, give it a
name and say add. Suppose the name is temp. How do I now insert that
paragraph elsewhere in the document. I tried ctrl F9 and put REF: temp in
there, but it doesn't work.

Can someone please enlighten me.

The obvious error is the : after REF. Your field should be { REF temp }
without the :

You choose Insert-Cross reference, and choose Temp from the list.
:)

Of course, for the Crossref to show up, the doc must be updated.
To do that, do a print preview or Ctrl+A and F9.

Both suggestions worked, but that leads to two more questions:

When I did the first suggestion, I got: {ref temp} and that worked fine.

When I did the insert cross reference, the following appeared:
{REF temp \h }.

That worked too.



My questions are:



1) What is the \h switch for?



2) Even after I do the print preview, the document itself still shows the
reference code rather than the text (although if printed, the text would
appear). So, how can I get the text itself to appear in the document?

The \h switch makes the cross-reference a hyperlink. This is the default
setting in the Insert | Cross-reference dialog when you first open it. If
you clear the check box for "Insert as hyperlink," it will stay unchecked
for the remainder of the Word session. Unless you have a specific reason for
hyperlinking the cross-reference, it's best not to.

Sorry, my preview pane didn't show that one. Just press Alt+F9 to toggle
from field codes to field results.
