I am using windows xp and word 2000 to send compressed,
password protected files to an associate. She is using
windows 98 and winzip. I have no problem opening her
emails but she cannot open mine.It is necessary that we
correspond and need to solve this problem. Any help would
be appreciated. As I understand it if I download and use
Winzip I will lose the use of my compressed folders
option, which I would like to avoid doing if at all
possible. And yes, I have cross posted, but only because
this problem is preventing the two of us from sending
sensitive files to each other in the course of our
employment. So please forgive me.This is a problem that
we must solve before we can get on with our work.

Crossposting is not a problem, but ONLY if it is done properly. Include all
of the groups you wish to crosspost to in the newsgroups: line, separated by
a comma, of one message. This way all of the replies to this message appear
on all of the groups and this saves you time because you do not need to go
to each group to find the replies to the message and it saves others from
wasting time by posting information that has already been posted by someone
else in another group.

Okay! Thanks very much for the reply, the second I have
recieved from this newsgroup that has nothing whatever to
do with the problem about which I posted in the first
place. I'm sure this problem can be easily solved, but not
by me. Surely someone has previous experience with this.

You can install Winzip on your XP computer but your friend cannot install
XP's Compressed Folders on their Win98 computer. If you want compatibility
on both ends, it looks like you need to be using Winzip too.

After installing Winzip, re-register XP's DLL file that provides the XP zip
functions. Start> Run> regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

Use the XP features in your everyday zip tasks. Open Winzip and use the
program's interface when dealing with files that will be exchanged with
your friend.
