I installed my office 2000 on a new HP machine using
windows XP. I am using MS Outlook for my email. If I
don't have MS Outlook open or minimized I can't open Word
or any document thru Word. I get the following
error: "Microsoft word for windows has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience." This error window also asks if I want to
send a report to microsoft. This accomplishes nothing
either way. To date I have reinstalled Office 2000,tried
using Outlook Express for email, renamed normal.dot per
knowledgebase, and Searched the knowledgebase for cures
and have tried the only two that I have found with no
results. It has been suggested to me that I
download "spybot" and use this to correct conflict.
However, I am unable to download spybot for whatever
reason?? Any assistance will be welcome.

I had similar issues with Office XP, where one became
corrupted and after reinstall they all had issues. I
suggest doing a system restore back to a point everything
was working and reinstalling after that. (And I don't mean
non destructive system recovery - I mean system restore
found in tools) I have an HP Pavilion 750C with Windows XP
Home. At this point, you probably have registry issues.
