Conflict between Windows XP and Canon Drivers

I recently downloaded the drivers from Canon's website for the Pixma
MP130 after migrating to Windows XP SP2. After doing so when turning
on my computer, it restarts 3-4 times before I can use it. I have no
problems printing.

A popup window appears saying one of my drivers is causing the problem.
Windows XP was working fine until I installed the drivers.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks.

Actually it can be more of an install problem-- if the old driver and
related canon application software was not uninstalled properly, a cleanup
utility was not used, and the new drivers were installed over the old ones.
Sometimes registry entries don't get changed correctly, along with a few
other gory details. This can be a real pain, since cannon normally requires
that you install the apps from the original CDs, and does not furnish apps
with the updated drivers.

After I uninstalled the drivers, I did the following:
- manually cleaned up registry settings
- deleted everything in the system32/spool directory,
- reinstalled a driver from a different source
- verified that the files had a digital signature

Still the computer reboots 3 times before I can use it.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks

1. Use System Restore to movge the system to a date just after you installed
SP2 and before you installed the Canon drivers.

2. Use Control Panel Add/Remove programs to remove SP2.

2a. Verify that your virus and malware checkers are still in place and
functioning.

3. Delete the Canon printrer using the Printers and Faxes facilities.

4. Check the Canon web site. Download and Run any utility Canon might
provide for cleanup of their printer drivers.

5. Install SP2 and any other required uppdates from the MS update site.

6. Install the latest printer drivers from the Canon site. Follow the
instructions. Do not connect the printer to the computer until the
instructions or oin-screen prompts tell you to.

I don't have a restore checkpoint going back that far. But I disabled
my fax modem because it wasn't working, I was able to start my computer
normally with my printer drivers installed.

I only have 384K of memory. Could it be I don't have enough memory to
load all my drivers during startup?
