This seems like a silly joke. I install office 2007. Every time I run
word it comes up with a Configuration process that takes a minute. Is
there a rational explanation for this?

Desmond.

Months ago i had that also
But can't remember how it desappeared - Sorry

Does the config process also ask you to agree to the terms of the
license agreement?

If so, I don't know that the explanation will seem especially rational,
but if you log in as administrator or run PPT (or other office app) as
administrator, accept the license agreement, let the app start, then
quit, it should sort things out, even after you log out and log back in
as yer hmbl self instead of Lord High Admin.

Do you have version 2003 and 2007 installed next to each other? No
This is a newly formatted PC with XP SP" Office Enterprise

Does the config process also ask you to agree to the terms of the
license agreement? No it allows me to carry on afterwards
PS. This has happend on other PCs and I experianced it on one PC with
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008

I wasn't really asking whether it stopped you from carrying on, but it
sounds as though you're NOT being asked to agree to anything.

What exactly do you see, then?

I see a big window saying Configureing and a progress bar slowly
moving across. This then will disapear and WORD or EXCEL will LAUNCH.

Does it happen with PowerPoint, too? You are posting in the PowerPoint
newsgroup, after all.

I'd check for add-ins. If you open PPT and go to Office Button | PPT Options
| Add-ins, what is listed?

You could also run Office Diagnostics. Open PPT, go to Office Button | PPT
Options | Resources and Run Diagnostics there.
