"Confirm Open After Download" Missing

It seems that, in their haste to make Windows Vista easier to use, Microsoft
has weeded out quite a few useful features -- including the capability where
you could choose whether certain files opened automatically once they were
downloaded, or whether you wanted to save a permanent copy onto your hard
drive. I am talking about a check box called "Confirm open after download"
that appeared in file type property pages in previous versions of Windows.
It seems in Windows Vista that this option has disappeared.

What I wish to ask is, is there anything that can be done about this issue?

The dialog box that pops up whenever I download is indistinguishable
from what I remember in XP.

I can tell it where to drop the download. I can choose to have it
close when the download is complete or stay open... which then gives
me the option to either run it or to close the box.

It is the same as XP!

I don't think we're talking about the same thing.

In the XP "Folder Options" control panel, there was a "File Types" tab,
under which you could manage all file types. When you selected a file type
and opened its Properties box, there was a checkbox labeled "Confirm open
after download."

In Vista, that option has disappeared.

Is there any solution?
