First, let me comment on (complain about) a strange feature
of this ng, which I'm using for the first time. Looking at
it thru Netscape 7.2, I could not find anyplace to post a
new message! I finally opened one of the existing
postings, and found there a "Post a New Message" button,
which I'm now using. I hope this is really a "New"
message, and is not treated as a reply to the message I had
opened. I frequent several other ngs, and never
encountered anything as bizarre as having to open somebody
else's message just to post a new one of your own!
Now to my query:
I have WinXP, recently factory installed by Dell, with SP2.
I also have WinXP on my older pc. I always access files,
etc., by clicking on Windows Explorer. On my older pc, it
automatically opened exactly what I wanted: my C: drive.
I don't recall if that was the original default setting, or
I chose some option, long ago, to make it work that way.
Nonetheless, on my new pc, when I click on Windows
Explorer, it opens (shows, is focused on) the folder "My
Documents". To get where I want to go, I must then click
on "Computer", then on "Local Disk (C)". Three clicks to
get where I want to start out! That may not sound like
much, but I do it dozens of times a day, to my great
annoyance. I want Windows Explorer to immediately open
"Local Disk (C)", showing all the folders in C.
Immediately. None of this crawling thru "My Documents",
etc. In fact, I would like to permanently deep-six "My
Documents". I never -- Never -- put anything there.
Everything -- Everything -- is always in C. Same for all
that other crap called "My" this or "My" that. BTW, that
terminology treats us, the users, like children. It's the
kind of names you'd put on a toy for a 6-yr old! Moreover,
it's nothing but visual clutter -- aside from the wasted
time clicking the stuff away to get where I want to go.
I'll create the folders where I want to put things, I'll
put them all in C, and that's that.
Anyway, I've searched Help, etc., and cannot found out how
to make Windows Explorer open C: immediately. Obviously it
can be done, since my older pc worked that way.
Thanks,
Ben Crain
