I live in a new condo which has its own computer network, and my "node" or
whatever you call it, has ethernet ports in every room. I am supposed to be
able to use my Brother 2070N printer plugged into to use with any computers
running wirelessly. I can't get this to work, and our system manager who
works under contract is impossible to contact. Brother wants me to connect
printer to the router, but then it has an IP different from the laptop.

I guess I need to get the printer configured with the laptop IP addressm,
but I don't know how to do this. Brother supports only the connection via
router which won't work here. Can somebody help me?
Thanks in advance.

HL-2070N == Laser with Ethernet printer?

How are the Ethernet ports set up?
Where is the central access point?

You need to know that any network needs a central access point where
usually you wuold have an Ethernet switch/hub with a router for
Internet access.

You may need to change the router so as to have a wireless model so
that all your equipment would then be on the same network.

Connect an Ethernet RJ-45 cable between the 2070N prinetr and the
router (you may need two cables in order to plug the printer at one
Ethernet wall jack and then the "other" wall jack to the router/switch.

As far as I know, the router is all set up down in a garage for our buliding
which contains 6 units, each functioning separately. I have a router, from
which my laptops run wirelessly.. I have a wall ethernet in each major room
and I am supposed to be able to plug the printer directly into the wall.
Yes, the printer is a laser with network capabilities, and I am running XP
w/SP2. If I cable the printer to the router, I get a different IP address
from the one for the network.

So, all the Ethernet wall outlets lead to the "building's" router in
the garage? So you have your own wireless router, then you must
connect the printer to your wireless router and this should be on te
same network wa your wireless laptop. If you connect the printer to
the wall Etherent outlets, you are giving access to this printer to
everyone if the building.

No, we each have separate router in he garage. Brother had me test the
printer plugged into he router, and IP differs from the network IP - can't
use the router I have. It needs to go into the ethernet outlet in the wall,
and somehow I need to get that IP address into the printer configuration.
That's what I don't know how to do, and Brother says they do not support
connection except through the router.
But thanks for trying.
