Hi:

I am trying to configure DNS to work on a cable modem with a Windows
2000 Server, and Active Directory. I am not getting any DNS issues in
event viewer, and everything works fine, but I can't get exchange IM
to work and I am experiencing 3 minute logons with Windows XP. Sorry,
I think DNS needs to be configured. I never set it up in Windows
2000, because I am using my ISPs DNS servers. Here are my questions:

1) How can I configure DNS to work with my ISPs DNS Servers?
2) Should I add a forward lookup zone for my ISP?

Any website references would be great

When you installed Active Directory, you should have been
prompted to install a DNS server (it may have installed
it for you).

You want to set all your clients (like your XP machine)
to ONLY use the DNS server on your network that is
working with Active Directory.

On that DNS server, you want to open the DNS
administrative tool, get the properties on the server,
click the Forwarders tab, and enter your ISP's DNS
servers in there.

If you don't get the forwarders tab, check the DNS tool
help file for information on setting up DNS forwarders.
