Configuring Assembly

I have two versions of a particular assembly. What is the use of configuring
assembly and how can I have access to each version ... what are the steps
involved...

If I drag-n-drop an assembly to GAC it is available immediately why should I
configure assembly?

You can use both versions of the same assembly.
