I want to configure an XP Pro for autonomous operation. It
will not connect to the internet, no one will ever add software
or data (once configured, the floppy & CD-ROM will be
removed). I will remove the anti-spyware and anti-virus and
the one piece of remaining user software will never ask to be
updated.

My questions:
1) I have XP pro SP2 installed. Should I apply any post SP2
updates?
2) How do I config XP and XP services such that XP never
checks for updates? Malware? etc.

TIA,

G

1) Up to you and whatever needs the software that is on it has. I
personally would make it *as updated as plausible* now - since "never"
actually rarely occurs and it might as well have a fighting chance when
'never' ends.

2) Uninstall all your antivirus/antispyware software (after disconnecting it
from the internet for the final time), disable the network device(s) and
modem(s) in device manager and turn off the automatic updates and such (the
way things notify you) through the Security Center control panel.
