Configure buttons to write entire words: does exist a software for this purpose?

I would like to write particular words by pressing only one two or three
buttons simultanesly or "sequentialsly" instead by writing the entire
words. So I would like a software that I can configure for this purpose.
For example I would like to write \alpha by pressing F2-a, \Alpha by
pressing F2-shift-a, \beta by pressing F2-b and so on. Who know something
that can be useful for me?

Linux.

Sorry couldn't let that one go ;-'

White Ant Software's All Chars for Windows will allow one something of this
sort --- you can't chord (press multiples at one time, 'cepting <shift>), but
you could set up things like:

<compose key> AA

and set that to type \alpha into your app.

It's listed at the pricelessware site. Sure wish there was something like to it
for Mac OS X or Linux --- even better would be an app w/ DEC's Compose.exe's
nifty scrolling font character listing window.

I used to know how to do that with a batch file, but it's been so many years
I've forgotten. It's really not difficult though. You might want to check
that route.

ALLCHARS can be configured to do this, although I do not think its possible
to use the function keys.
For example, I use //g to write my email address, //f for my name, //h
produces http://www. I also use it for my tags.

Ceg's response reminds me of something ansi.sys can do.
If you ask in alt.ms.dos or take a look first at the posts there might be
an answer. Need to know OS.

Here's another vote for AllChars. I've used it for years, since
discovering that DEC's nifty little "compose.exe" does not run on my
win98 platform :-(. In addition to allowing you to insert so-called
"typographical" characters that don't appear on standard keyboards,
Allchars is an efficient autotyper that allows you to assign entire
paragraphs (with, I think a 256-char limit) to keypresses that you
define. It's little, it works very well, and it's FREE!!
