Do you have the Everquest game installed? If so, it probably belongs to
that program. It might also belong to the MS Office Design Gallery.

You can try right-clicking on the file and then see if there's a Version
tab. If there is, the company that created the file may be shown. You
can also see if the file will open in Notepad by right-clicking it and
choosing "Open With">Notepad. If you get readable text, that may also
provide clues.

I have not installed any games.

When I right-click on the file there is no Version tab.

The General tab says it opens with Clip Organizer but when I try to
open it with Clip Organizer I get error Error Code 0x80004005.

Is it true that all valid Microsoft files have a Version tab with
their name on it?

When I look at it with Notepad, it is unreadable except for the names
of some programs I am currently running.

My guess would be that it belongs to MS Office, but I don't have that
file on any of my Windows machines that have Office installed. That
doesn't mean anything, though. My Office version and setup could be
completely different than yours. You might get the error because the
file isn't mean to be opened; a program is meant to read the file to
get configuration information.

You should probably post your question in one of the Office newsgroups.
Make sure you include your version/service pack level of Office. Here's
a list of all the MS newsgroups so you can find a general one for
Office:

Personally, I doubt the file is anything bad and probably is part of
your MS Office, but if you want to be sure you can submit it to
VirusTotal:

I would delete CONFIG.MPF. It does not belong in the system32 folder, no
matter what it is.

Clip art can be downloaded from Microsoft in the .mpf format.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/clipart/default.aspx

..MPF files are MediaPackageFiles. mstore.exe is the Microsoft Clip
Organizer. Mpf files open with mstore.exe. mstore.exe is part of MS Office
XP (2002), 2003 and Microsoft Works Suite 2005 Standard Edition.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MediaPackageFile\shell\Open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office10\\MSTORE.EXE\" \"%1\""

16 bit programs do not have a Version tab. Neither does most malware.

Clip Organizer may not complete the operation.Unspecified error. Error code
0x80004005

CONFIG.MPF is probably not a real clip art file.
