I have 2 laptops with xp pro and w2k pro in a workgroup
called workgroup. Both are connected via a hub with ip
adresses. both have the same password for the
administrator account and I can access the w2k laptop
from xp via pass through auth. When I try to access the
xp laptop from w2k I get logon failiure: user account
restriction. Am at wits end and about to hit the bottle!
Any help would great.

I am having the exact same problem. I have 3 PCs all with XP Home version
sharing a printer on one of them. I also have a PC with Win 2k Pro. The
Win 2k Pro PC can not attach to the XP PC with the Printer. They are all
four members of the same Workgroup. The PC shows up in the Neiborhood, when
I double click the computer both the shared folder and the printer are
there. However when I try to attach I geta message that the printer or
computer is no longer attached to the network. and I know it is because
they are side by side. File and Print sharing is enabled. The really odd
part is that my Work Laptop which also has Win 2k Pro installed and is not
part of the Workgroup has no problems using the printer.....HELP?

I am having the same problem also. I just posted a message
about it. The problem just stared last week. Wonder if it
is a new virus?

ok, Got to the bottom of this problem. By default in xp
pro and I think this goes for Home as well you can not
use blank password, as in no password for the
administrator account. If you change the administrator
password on both computers to anything as long as they
match you get pass through auth. If you want to change
this the default setting in xp go to local security
policy - local policy\security options and disable limit
local account use of blank passwords to console logon
only. This worked for me. Please make sure you have a
backup before you go playing with local policy
settings!!!!!!!
