My wireless laptop couldn’t connect today to the network I use everyday at
home. Similar to when I move from one location to another across town,
sometimes my wireless laptop connects immediately to whatever network I am
near and other times it doesn’t.
If you have Windows Live Messenger or better yet, if Windows Live Messenger
has taken over your computer when you never asked for it in the first place
you have additional connection issues to resolve before you can use your
computer. Yes, I say “use†your computer because that’s all your computer
really is- a portal to the Internet. Without the Internet on your computer
is it really of any value?
So back to my connection problems that frequently show up when I try and use
my laptop wirelessly. I try and connect and get nowhere.
So I go click on Help.
Sorry, Help is not available unless you are online.
To view Internet content that has been saved on my computer I’m advised to
click on Work Offline, then go to Favorites and click on a recent website I
visited.
Sorry, those web pages are not available unless you are online.
Okay, I know I can at least look up the error code on the Windows Live
Messenger Help site.
Sorry, you can’t look up the error code to see why you are not connecting to
the Internet, unless you are connected to the Internet.
To get help connecting to the Internet, or to even understand why I am not
connecting to the Internet, I have to first be connected to the Internet.
Huh?
What would be so hard with providing the user with access to the Help area
offline? If I was connected to the Internet, or when I do get connected, I
won’t need Help. And believe me when I do get connected by trial and error
or just trying everything I can think of to get connected I will not then go
look up the error code I was given so I will know what to do next time this
happens. What idiot would do that? Once you’re connected, you don’t need
help, won’t waste time looking for help and you will be like a sitting duck
waiting for the next time when this will happen again and again you will not
be able to connect.
If I need help connecting to the Internet but can only access help if I am
already connected to the Internet, call me goofy but wouldn’t it be just a
tad more sensible if help was available offline. Once I am online I will
never use help, but it sure would come in handy if it was available offline.
“Invalid IP address?
Okay, let’s see how to correct that. I hit Troubleshoot, and then Repair to
fix it and reset my IP address to something new.
Sorry, to reset your IP address you must be connected to the Internet.â€
Thanks.
